Weekly Kayaking Sessions

If you have ever wanted to learn how to kayak then come along and give it a try at Morpeth Paddle Sport Club. You don't need any experience or equiment and we let you attend 3 sessions (£3 per session) before you have to join up and pay a membership fee. Our instructors can teach people from absolute beginers to people who already have basic kayaking skills.

Junior Kayaking

A large proportion of our members are youths, people under the age of 16 are taught seperately from the adults which allows them to concentrate on learning the basics as well as safety procedures. As well as general kayaking techniques we also spend time playing games which help make learning more fun.

Grade Awards

Club members aged 16 and over work towards the British Canoeing Unions star awards, the criteria for meeting these awards can be found at the BCU website. Once these members have reached their 2 star awards the opportunity is occaisionaly offerd for some of the members to go to a rescue course and then begin their coaching qualifications.

Where We Paddle

Lessons are held in Carlisle park just beind Morpeth Leisure Centre every Monday. There are two time slots every week, 5.30-6.30 and 7-8. The sessions take place on this small stretch of water during the summer however in the winter, group members who have reached a sufficient standard will be invited to paddle different rivers of varying difficulties.

Becoming a Member

When you first come along to the paddle sport club we allow you three weeks to decide if you want to join, we asj that you pay £9 at your first session which covers your equipment hire for the whole three lessons. After these three sessions we ask that you pay a £14 annual membership fee, this is mainly to cover insurance, you will still need to pay the £3 per week to cover equipment hire and instruction. If you wish to coma along and give kayaking a try you can simply turn up however because equipment is limited and members will be given priority, we reccomend that you contact us first to check that there is space.
